This is an interesting one. I would want to make sure that any groomer has an emergency procedure in place. It wouldn’t be frowned upon if this question was asked on the first visit. I would expect the groomer to ask me lots of questions. A new groomer should be asking about the health and well being of the dog and if there was any allergies that they should know about. temperament should also be considered. You could also ask if the groomer has experience with the breed in question and what their matting policy is. Remember, your dog should have a pain free time in the salon and a good groomer will never put your dog through pain just to achieve an aesthetically pleasing look for the owner. Groomers jobs are to look after the skin and coat of the dog and pulling at matts for hours is not doing this. You should probably ask if they have a liability insurance in place too.
