PETA recently scolded us animal lovers for referring to our best friends as pets, arguing that the term pet is derogatory and patronises the animal. I rarely refer to Vinnie as a pet, not because I think it would hurt his feelings, I don’t refer to him as a companion either. Growing up in Ireland I have regularly heard the word pet used as a term of endearment for humans of all ages. Has Jennifer White or her colleagues ever been to Newcastle 😊!

Is the term pet derogatory to our much-loved pets? Are there not more important issues surrounding animal and pet welfare that Piers and Susanna could be discussing?

A clever PR exercise on PETAs part to keep their name in the headlines or are they just BARKING mad?

If its not the former then the latter must apply in my opinion. What do you think?
